Magnet Schools offer unique and exciting “magnet themes” that provide a focus for student learning. Our Magnet Schools provide rich, in-depth, hands-on experiences for students that enable them to more fully understand the connections between what they are learning and its relevance to their lives outside the classroom. Our magnet schools and themes are:
Elementary and PreK-8 Magnet Programs:
- Gerena (PreK-5): Montessori and the Arts
- Kensington (K-5): International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP)
- Zanetti (PreK-8): Montessori
Secondary School Magnet Programs:
John J. Duggan Academy: (6-11 in 2016-17, expanding to 6-12): Expeditionary Learning and Social Justice
Springfield Conservatory of the Arts: (grades 6 – 11 in 2016-17, expanding to 6-12)
Renaissance (6-12): Expeditionary Learning and STEM
STEM Middle Academy (6–8): Expeditionary Learning and STEM
Van Sickle IB (6-8): International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program
- Central High School (9-12): Advanced Studies and STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts and Math)
High School of Science & Technology (9-12): STEM
Magnet Balloting and Sign-Up for All Grades (Pre-K, Kindergarten thru 12)
takes place each year from December through the second week in January
at the Parent & Community Engagement Center, 91 School Street, Springfield
The Magnet Ballot will be available online at SpringfieldPublicSchools.com during the Magnet balloting period. Please make sure to ballot during this time since seats are limited!
