After only 3 short years, Central not only has built an impressive Marching Band from scratch, they now have a WINNING Marching Band! Under the leadership of Band Director, Ray Dandurand, Central students competed along with their peers from across the state in regional Marching Band Competitions where the Indoor Percussion Group placed 1st and then 2nd and then brought home 2nd place at the New England finals. Congratulations to the band members who worked so hard to earn these honors and accolades.
Since its inaugural year in 2010, the Central band program has grown from a handful of die-hard student-musicians to a group that is now over 100 students strong and encompasses the Marching Band, Jazz Band and Percussion Band. The indoor Percussion program in particular has been a huge success with a waiting list of interested student musicians hoping to join on. Band members will participate in a week-long Band Camp in August to prepare them for the upcoming Marching Band season and will hold a performance on August 16th at 3:30 for those interested in being part of the fun and excitement of this award winning group.
After the 2013 marching season is complete, band members will begin preparations for concert band season and are planning to compete in an international band competition in Toronto, Canada in April 2014. Whether they bring home a trophy or not, we are certainly proud of these student musicians for their perseverance and dedication to refining and improving their craft.
